BIBERACH/STARNBERG, December 11, 2022

The 51st edition of the National German Tennis Championships presented by Tannenhof concluded Sunday. On the final day, spectators at the tennis base of the Württembergischer Tennis Federation in Biberach an der Riß saw two first-time winners in Ella Seidel and Jakob Schnaitter.

Exactly one week after the start of the event, Seidel added her name to the list of champions in the women’s singles competition. The 17-year-old from Hamburg defeated 14-year-old Sonja Zhenikhova 6-4, 7-5 in the final. Seidel was the most consistent player of the week and only had to go the full distance once – in her semi-final match against Julia Stusek.

In the men’s competition, Bavarians Max Rehberg and Schnaitter went head-to-head in the final. Schnaitter, 26, defeated the 19-year-old Rehberg 6-3, 6-3. In his only second appearance at the National German Tennis Championships, Rehberg knocked out top seed Kai Wehnelt in the stage of the last four. Schnaitter, who represents the Tennis Club Ismaning, was the better player over two sets in the championship match. By winning the title in Biberach, the No. 47 in the German rankings celebrated one of the biggest successes in his professional career.
