ISMANING/STARNBERG, October 16, 2022

Quentin Halys of France has captured the title of the Wolffkran Open by Tannenhof. The top seed of the €45,730 ATP Challenger Tour carpet event ended the impressive run of 19-year-old local hero Max Rehberg, who was a on nine-match winning streak on this surface, in Sunday’s singles final.

In front of packed stands at the Tennis Club Ismaning, Halys secured a 7-6(6), 6-3 victory in one hour and 12 minutes.

“(Being this year’s champion) sounds great. I was playing very well. The whole week was amazing. I am really happy about my performance,” said Halys.

“It was very tough, very close. I was lucky to take a break in the second set. It was a very tough victory.”

Halys made his fifth appearance at the International German Indoor Championships. After winning the doubles title 2019 and by celebrating a triumph in singles this year, is his mission in Ismaning now completed? “I don’t know, I hope I can come back to that kind of tournament, as I have enjoyed my time here. So, never say never.”

By earning his sixth ATP Challenger Tour career crown, his third of the season following his victories on home soil in Pau and Lille, Halys collected €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.

Rehberg with positive week

“This has been my first defeat in the last 10 matches. I don’t want to complain but I am disappointed. My opponent, however, was really strong on this surface today. I am happy, but I will need a couple more days to evaluate this week,” said Rehberg, who has pocketed the biggest prize cheque in his career, taking away €3,550 as well as valuable 50 ATP Ranking points.

The World No. 596 will next compete in the Ladies & Gents Cup ATP Challenger in Hamburg the upcoming week.
