Following six triumphs on the ITF Pro Circuit, Nerman Fatic captured his maiden crown on the ATP Challenger Tour by winning the 11th edition of the Sibiu Open. The 27-year-old from Bosnia and Herzegovina beat his compatriot Damir Dzmhur, No. 6 seed of the €45,730 clay-court event, 6-3, 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final.
Fatic booked his spot in the championship match at the Tenis Club Pamira with wins over fifth-seeded Italian Riccardo Bonadio, Louis Wessels from Germany, Ivan Gakhov of Russia and Argentine Federico Coria.
The World No. 258 broke Dzumhur’s serve five times and won 53 per cent of the total points played to succeed in one hour and 34 minutes.

“It was an amazing and crazy week for me,” Fatic said afterwards. “I arrived pretty late here after the Davis Cup. I was playing really well but didn’t expect this result. I have been working hard all my life to achieve this. I am very happy.”
Fatic pocketed €6,190 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Ranking points. “Now, I should be able to enter the qualifying of the Australian Open. The tournament helped me a lot. It will be amazing for my career and will always remember the Sibiu Open.”
Sabanov Brothers triumph in doubles
In other action, Ivan and Matej Sabanov were crowned doubles champions. The second-seeded siblings from Serbia rallied past top seeds Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler of Austria 3-6, 7-5, 10-4 in one hour and 28 minutes.
By winning their third Challenger team title, their first of the season, the Sabanov brothers split €2,670 in prize money and collected 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
