Krutykh Crowned First-Time Challenger Champion In Prague

PRAGUE/STARNBERG, April 28, 2022

Oleksii Krutykh has clinched his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour by winning the IBG Prague Open by Moneta Money Bank in the Czech Republic. The 22-year-old Ukrainian fought past World No. 384 Lucas Gerch from Germany 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-2 in Sunday’s championship match.

In an encounter between two first-time Challenger finalists, Krutykh capitalized on six of his 13 break-point opportunities. The No. 2 seed of the €32,160 clay-court event hosted by TK Spoje Praha won 52 per cent of the total points played to seal victory in two hours and 20 minutes.

Krutykh booked his place in the final with wins over Romanian veteran Marius Copil, local wild card entry Petr Nouza, US-American Nicolas Moreno de Alboran and 16-year-old Czech Jakub Mensik.

The two-time ITF World Tennis Tour champion earned €4,400 in prize money as well as 50 ATP Ranking points.

Cornea/Paulson triumph in doubles

On Saturday, Victor Vlad Cornea from Romania and Andrew Paulson of the Czech Republic claimed the doubles title. The top seeds defeated Adrian Andreev from Bulgaria and Bolivian Murkel Dellien 6-3, 6-1 in one hour and four minutes.

By winning their first team title, Cornea and Paulson split €1,700 in prize money and collected 50 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
