Thiago Monteiro and Norbert Gombos will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the €134,920 Salzburg Open. The No. 6 seed from Brazil knocked out Argentine Facundo Bagnis, defending champion in Austria and seventh seed of the ATP Challenger Tour 125 clay-court tournament, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.

World No. 89 Monteiro struck eight aces and won 70 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in three hours and four minutes.

Gombos also overcame a bumpy start, as he rallied past Frenchman Corentin Moutet 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. The 31-year-old Slovakian capitalized on three of his four break-point chances to prevail after two hours and 39 minutes.

Monteiro will bid for his seventh Challenger career crown, his first of the season. Gombos could lift his eighth trophy, his first since Winnipeg, Canada 2019.

Gombos won the only previous meeting between the two in straight sets at the 2014 Liberec Challenger in the Czech Republic.
