The stars of the ATP Challenger Tour are in Italy this week for the 14th edition of the Internazionali di Tennis Città di Todi. The  €45,730 clay-court tournament is organized by MEF Tennis Events and is being held at the Tennis Club Todi 1971.

In Monday’s all-Italian first-round battle Luciano Darderi defeated Gian Marco Moroni 6-4, 7-5. The 20-year-old, who is ranked World No. 232, struck five aces and won 74 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in one hour and 52 minutes.

“I have to congratulate Moroni, who returned to the courts after an injury and played an excellent match and a great fight,” Darderi said. “One year ago I was travelling alone playing ITF tournaments in Tunisia, which helped me to find myself, but now I’m happy to be able to play here in front of my father, my trainer and my friends.”
