US-American youngster Emilio Nava has lifted his maiden trophy on the ATP Challenger Tour by winning the $53,120 Shymkent Challenger 1. The 20-year-old ended the run of German qualifier Sebastian Fanselow, winning 6-4, 7-6(3) in Saturday’s singles final held at Kazakhstan’s National Tennis Center.

Nava booked his spot in the championship match by upsetting the tournament’s top seed Tennys Sandgren from the United States in the opening round followed by wins over US-American qualifier Evan Zhu, Viktor Durasovic of Norway and a retirement of his compatriot Ulises Blanch.

Nava fired eight aces and won 78 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in one hour and 38 minutes. The World No. 358, who claimed his first title on the ITF World Tennis Tour in La Nucia, Spain last year and entered the clay-court event as an alternate, earned $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.

Bellier/Decamps triumph in doubles

Earlier in the day, Antoine Bellier of Switzerland and Gabriel Decamps from Brazil took the doubles title. In a final between two unseeded teams, they defeated Fanselow and Kaichi Uchida from Japan 7-6(3), 6-3 in one hour and 17 minutes.

By winning their first team title, Bellier and Decamps split $3,100 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
