PHOENIX/STARNBERG, March 19, 2022

Four unseeded players have booked their spots in the semi-finals of the Carvana Arizona Tennis Classic hosted by the Phoenix Country Club. Under the Center Court lights Friday, World No. 124 Liam Broady of Great Britain knocked out the eighth favourite and last-seeded player left in the singles draw of the $159,360 ATP Challenger Tour hard-court event, David Goffin from Belgium, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Both players won 94 points but the 28-year-old lefty from Stockport succeeded in two hours and 12 minutes. Broady will next face Daniel Altmaier from Germany, who defeated Radu Albot of Moldova 6-4, 7-5 in one hour and 36 minutes.

In the bottom half of the draw, Denis Kudla edged out French veteran Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-4. The 29-year-old US-American hit seven aces, saved the only break point he faced and capitalized on two of his own four break-point chances to prevail after one hour and 28 minutes.

Up next for Kudla will be his compatriot JJ Wolf. The local wild card entry snapped the eight-match winning streak of Fernando Verdasco from Spain, champion of last week’s Abierto GNP Seguros ATP Challenger 100 in Monterrey, Mexico. Wolf broke the Iberian’s serve three times to secure a 7-5, 6-4 victory in one hour and 31 minutes.
