Bagnis To Play Dutra Silva For Santiago Challenger Crown

Facundo Bagnis returns to the final of the Cachantun Cup

SANTIAGO, March 13, 2016

The top-seed as well as the tournament’s number three will go head to head in Sunday’s final of the $50,000 Cachantun Cup in Santiago.

Defending champion Facundo Bagnis dashed the local’s hope when he defeated Santiago native Gonzalo Lama 6-1, 6-2 in the first semi-final on Saturday. The world number 95 from Argentina saved all five break points he faced, converting four of his own to advance after one hour and 16 minutes. Bagnis will vie for his second ATP Challenger title of the season after he lifted the trophy in Rio de Janeiro in January.

He will face Rogerio Dutra Silva, who emerged victorious from the all-Brazilian-affair with wild card Thiago Moneiro. The world number 114 from Balneario Camboriu won 73% of his first service points, hitting five aces to prevail in two hours and 36 minutes. Dutra Silva returns to a Challenger final in the capital of Chile after he lifted the trophy here last October.

Bagnis and Dutra Silva will meet for the sixth time on the tour with the Argentine leading 3-2 in head to head records.
