Wimbledon Flair In Mallorca

The inaugural Mallorca Open are going to take place from 11 to 19 June 2016. The US-$250,000 WTA International grass court event will be hosted by the emotion management GmbH, organizers of the ATP 250 event in Stuttgart as well as the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna, at a multi-purpose-built facility at the Santa Ponsa Tennis Club in Calvia.

The ladies will find top-conditions in order to prepare for Wimbledon due to a strong support by the All England Lawn Tennis Club. “The tournament will be played on the same surface as well as with the same balls, used in Wimbledon,” emotion’s CEO Edwin Weindorfer stated.

Garbine Murguruza has already announced her participation in Mallorca. “It is always something special and an incentive to play in front of your home crowd. I am really looking forward to playing here next year,” the 2015 Wimbledon runner-up and current world number 3 from Spain told.

Edwin Weindorfer and tournament director Peer Zebergs will conduct further negotiations with players during the tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami the next couple of weeks. Swiss youngster Belinda Bencic, Austrian number one Tamira Paszek as well as Germany’s top-ranked-players are possible competitors in Mallorca.

Former world number one Ana Ivanovic told during an interview at the Australian Open that she would like to start her Wimbledon preparations on the Spanish island.
