Daniel Altmaier clinched his third ATP Challenger Tour title of the season by winning the third edition of the Puerto Vallarta Open in Mexico. The No. 2 seed of the award-winning $52,080 hard-court event held at the Parque Parota battled past third-seeded Chilean Alejandro Tabilo 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final.

In the pair’s second meeting, Altmaier struck seven aces and won 70 per cent of his first-service points to seal victory in two hours and four minutes. The 23-year-old from Kempen lifted his third Challenger career trophy. Altmaier claimed the titles on home soil at the Sparkassen Open in Braunschweig and at the Sauerland Open in Lüdenscheid earlier this season.

Tabilo was bidding for his second ATP Challenger career crown following his maiden triumph in Guayaquil, Ecuador earlier this month. The 24-year-old Santiago resident took away from Puerto Vallarta $4,240 in prize money and earned 48 ATP Ranking points.

Champion Altmaier pocketed $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points, reaching a new career-high Ranking of World No. 84.
