The top two seeds of the Aberto Da Republica lead the semi-finals line-up. Federico Coria defeated fellow Argentine and eighth seed Juan Ignacio Londero 7-6(10), 6-4 on Friday at the Iate Clube de Brasilia.

The No. 1 seed of the $52,080 ATP Challenger 80 clay-court tournament saved all three break points he faced and converted one of his own five break-point opportunities to prevail after two hours and six minutes.

Coria, who captured his second ATP Challenger Tour title at the Czech Open in Prostejov this season, will next take on Francisco Cerundolo. The fourth-seeded Argentine edged out his compatriot Hernan Casanova 7-6(3), 6-4 after one hour and 47 minutes.

In the bottom half of the draw, Jaume Munar of Spain battled past home favourite and No. 7 seed Thiago Seyboth Wild 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. The No. 2 seed struck four aces and won 70 per cent of his first-service points to seal victory in two hours and 20 minutes. Up next for Munar will be Pedro Cachin, who emerged victorious from the all-Argentine affair with Nicolas Kicker, winning 7-6(3), 6-4 in one hour and 56 minutes.

Brazilians reach doubles final

In the doubles competition, Brazilian youngsters Mateus Alves and Gustavo Heide upset their compatriots and top seeds Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 to reach the championship match. The wild card entries prevailed after one hour and 25 minutes.

“It was a hell of a match today,” Alves, 20, said. “It’s our first tournament together and we play well during the week and now we’re in the final. The match had several ups and downs, we started the first set well, we had chances in the second, but we kept a cool head to start the super tie-break with a lot of intensity and came out with the victory.”

Alves and Heide will play Italian teenager Luca Darderi and Genaro Alberto Olivieri of Argentina in Saturday’s final.

“The final will be another tough match against two boys who play very well. I know Darderi a little, who was once my doubles partner. It’s our first final and we have to give everything to take the title here in Brasilia,” Heide, 19, said.
