The quarterfinals of the HPP Open are set. Germany’s Oscar Otte, fifth seed of the €44,820 ATP Challenger Tour hard-court tournament in Helsinki, Finland, continued his good run of form with a solid 6-1, 6-2 second-round win over Jurij Rodionov of Austria on Thursday afternoon.

Otte, who clinched two Challenger titles on home soil in Ismaning as well as in Ortisei, Italy, over the last three weeks, saved all three break points he faced and capitalized on four of his own seven break-point chances to advance after 59 minutes.

The 26-year-old from Cologne will next take on World No. 103 Alex Molcan. The third seed from Slovakia defeated 18-year-old Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and 19 minutes.

Russian qualifier Alexander Shevchenko benefited from the retirement of German veteran Matthias Bachinger to reach the quarterfinals. The 20-year-old was leading 7-6(6), 5-1 when Bachinger was forced to stop playing due to a hip injury. Shevchenko will next oppose Mats Moraing of Germany.

In the bottom half of the draw, Nikola Milojevic rallied past Ramkumar Ramanathan of India 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. The No. 8 seed from Serbia hit 11 aces and won 87 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after one hour and 37 minutes. Up next for Milojevic will be World No. 97 and second-seeded Swiss Henri Laaksonen, the highest-ranked player left in the singles draw.

Liam Broady of Great Britain defeated Belgian qualifier Joris de Loore 6-3, 7-5 in one hour and 29 minutes to take on Portuguese Joao Sousa in the stage of the final eight.
