Jesper de Jong and Alejandro Tabilo will compete in the singles final of the Challenger Ciudad de Guayaquil Copa Banco Guayaquil presented by CNT, a $52,080 clay-court tournament being held at the Anexo Guayaquil Tenis Club.

De Jong defeated No. 8 seed Tomas Etcheverry of Argentina 7-5, 6-3 on Saturday. The World No. 232 from the Netherlands capitalized on all of his four break-point chances to advance after one hour and 41 minutes.

“It’s good to play with a lot of people in the stands, it has a little more energy and I like to play with a crowd. It’s good to see a lot of people during the match,” de Jong said.

Tabilo edged past No. 6 seed Thiago Seyboth Wild of Brazil 6-2, 7-6(2). The lefty from Chile sent down five aces and won 77 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after one hour and 23 minutes.

“I was playing a very good match, I am very confident, very solid and happy.I played tactically well and my serve also helped me a lot in controlling the game,” said Tabilo, who reached the Challenger final in Lexington earlier this season.

The World No. 169 is bidding for his maiden crown on the ATP Challenger Tour. De Jong could lift his second career trophy following his triumph in Almaty, Kazakhstan in June. The 21-year-old Dutch won the only previous meeting between the two, which took also place in Guayaquil two years ago.

Dutchmen prevail in doubles

Later in the day, de Jong was back in action, winning the doubles title. Alongside his compatriot Bart Stevens, the pair beat Diego Hidalgo from Ecuador and Cristian Rodriguez of Colombia 7-5, 6-2 after one hour and 12 minutes.

De Jong and Stevens split $3,100 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
