Jarry Earns Lima Challenger Crown

Nicolas Jarry took the title of the $52,080 Dove Men & Care Legion Sudamericana Lima 2 Challenger, hosted by the Club Terrazas Miraflores in Lima, Peru, without dropping a set all week.

The unseeded Chilean defeated No. 2 seed Juan Manuel Cerundolo of Argentina 6-2, 7-5 in Sunday’s singles final. Jarry struck eight aces and won 82 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after one hour and 20 minutes.

 

The World No. 202 moved past local wild card entry Arklon Huertas del Pino Cordova, lucky loser Cristian Rodriguez from Venezuela, compatriot Alejandro Tabilo and Vit Kopriva of the Czech Republic en route to the championship match.

Jarry lifted his fifth ATP Challenger career trophy, his second of the season following his triumph in Salinas, Ecuador in April. The 26-year-old from Santiago took away $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.

Galdos/Oliveira win doubles title

On Saturday, home favourite Sergio Galdos and Goncalo Oliveira from Portugal captured the doubles title. The No. 2 seeds edged past the all-Chilean tandem of Tomas Barrios Vera and Alejandro Tabilo 6-2, 2-6, 10-5. The encounter lasted one hour and seven minutes.

Galdos and Oliveira split $3,100 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
