Stefano Travaglia of Italy is the champion of the 2021 Sibiu Open hosted by the Tennis Club Pamira in Sibiu, Romania. The top seed of the €44,820 ATP Challenger Tour clay-court tournament defeated No. 7 seed Thanasi Kokkinakis of Australia 7-6(4), 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final.

The World No. 97 hoisted his fifth career trophy, his first since Sopot, Poland in early August 2019. Travaglia took away from Transylvania €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.

“I started the year with an ATP 250 final in Australia. The points I earned there gave me to chance to compete in all the Grand Slam tournaments. I also played big tournaments on the ATP Tour but I didn’t win too many matches. So I decided to play a couple of Challengers on my favourite surface towards the end of the season. I tried to play more matches and gain some confidence,” said Travaglia.

“Last week in Bucharest was pretty good but this week was better, as I won the title here in Sibiu. I am very happy that the tournament made it possible that we could play in front of a crowd. I showed some good tennis throughout the week and finished with the win.”
