Griekspoor Dethrones Carballes Baena In Murcia

Tallon Griekspoor captured the title of the Challenger Costa Cálida Región de Murcia, being held at the Real Murcia Club de Tenis 1919 in Spain.

The second seed of the €44,820 ATP Challenger clay-court tournament rallied from a set down to overcome defending champion and home favourite Roberto Carballes Baena 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final. Griekspoor sent down seven aces and broke his opponent’s serve five times to prevail after two hours and 27 minutes.

World No. 131 Griekspoor edged past Spaniard Nikolas Sanchez Izquierdo, US-American Alexander Ritschard, Miljan Zekic of Serbian and Flavio Cobolli of Italy en route to the title match.

The 25-year-old Haarlem native lifted his sixth ATP Challenger career trophy, his fourth of the season after his triumphs in Prague, Czech Republic, Bratislava, Slovakia and on home soil in Amersfoort. Griekspoor collected €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.
