Mats Moraing captured his fourth ATP Challenger career title by lifting the trophy of the inaugural NÖ Open powered by EVN in Tulln an der Donau, Austria. In Saturday’s singles final between two lefties, the 29-year-old German cruised past Frenchman Hugo Gaston 6-2, 6-1.

Moraing set the tone early, won 94 per cent of his first-service points and broke his opponent’s serve five times to secure victory in only 46 minutes.

“I have been feeling good here the whole week,” said Moraing during the trophy ceremony. “I had a good start into the match, kept calm and I am happy to win. The organization was great. It was one of the best tournaments I have ever been to.”

Following his triumphs on home soil at the Koblenz Open in 2018, in Amersfoort, Netherlands 2019 and Forli, Italy in June this year, Moraing celebrated his fourth title win and took away from the clay-court tournament Lower Austria €12,250 in prize money as well as 100 ATP Ranking points.

Brown/Vavassori take doubles title

Earlier in the day, Dustin Brown from Germany and Italian Andrea Vavassori took the doubles trophies. The No. 4 seeds beat the all-Brazilian combination of Rafael Matos and Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves 7-6(5), 6-1. The encounter lasted one hour and 17 minutes.

By winning their first team title, Brown and Vavassori split €5,200 in prize money and earned 100 ATP Doubles Ranking points.

The organizers of the tournament were pleased with the last six days in Tulln.

“As a tournament director you have an ear everywhere,” said Florian Leitgeb. “With the players, partners, spectators and also with the media. The positive conclusion here and there: The premiere of the NÖ Open powered by EVN was a success. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the ATP comeback in Lower Austria!”
