Brown Defuses Olivetti in Wroclaw, Donskoy falls to Kravchuk

The top-seeds of the second edition of the Wroclaw Open headlined quarterfinals action at Hala Orbita on Friday.

The tournament’s number two, Dustin Brown downed hard hitting Frenchman Albano Olivetti, winning 6-4, 6-2. The 31-year-old German withstood 11 aces, hitting 15 on his own and didn’t face a break point in the entire match. Olivetti produced 11 double faults Brown broke his serve in the third game of the opening set as well as in the first and fifth game of the second to reach his second semis of the season after exactly one hour of play.

Brown will take on in-form Czech qualifier Jan Hernych. The 36-year-old defeated Jurgen Zopp 7-6, 6-4, winning 79% of his first service points and converting two of his eight break point chances to prevail in one hour and 23 minutes. Hernych, who reached a career high number 59 back in 2009, advance to his first semi-final on the ATP Challenger Tour since losing to Andreas Seppi in Ortisei in November 2014.

Konstantin Kravchuk celebrated his first victory over the tournament’s top-seed Evgeny Donskoy the fourth meeting of the two Russians. The seventh favourite fired 15 aces and saved the only break point he faced, converting one of his own to seal a 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 win in two hours and 14 minutes. Kravchuk will take on Marco Chiudinelli next, who defeated Alexander Kudryavtsev 6-3, 6-2 in only 56 minutes.
