The top-seeds were back in second round action on Thursday at the €85,000 Wroclaw Open, held at Hala Orbita.

The tournament’s number one Evgeny Donskoy advanced to the quarterfinals, winning 6-4, 6-4 over Aleksandr Nedovyesov. The world number 82 from Russia didn’t face a break point and capitalized on two of his three own chances to seal victory in 61 minutes. Donskoy will play fellow countryman and seventh seed Konstantin Kravchuk next, who knocked-off home hope Lukasz Kubot in his opening match.

Second seed Dustin Brown also found his way into the stage of the final eight, as he cruised past Andrey Golubev 6-1, 6-4. The world number 106 didn’t lose his service and broke three times to celebrate his first victory over the Kazakh in the pair’s second tour meeting after only 54 minutes of play.

“The match wasn’t as easy as the scoreboard might tell. On fast surfaces, only one break can decide the match. Andrey returned better in the second set and I had to be vigilant until the end of the match,” told Brown, who is regarded as the tournament’s main attraction.

“I’ll try not to dissapoint the expectations of the local audience, which really encourages me,” he added. Brown will face hard-hitting Frenchman Albano Olivetti next.

Jan Hernych, who qualified for a main draw for the first time this season (after playing in Doha and Bergamo), advanced to the quarterfinals through a 6-7,6-3, 6-2 win over special exempt entry Gregoire Barrere. The 36-year-old Czech withstood 14 aces, hitting eight of his own to prevail in one hour and 50 minutes. Hernych will face Jurgen Zopp next, who knocked out defending champion Farrukh Dustov 7-6, 6-4 in one hour and 28 minutes.

Alexander Kudryavtsev fought back to overcome fourth seed Lukas Lacko 2-6, 6-4, 7-6. The 30-year-old Russian was a set and a break in the final set down, firing 26 aces to have the better ending after one hour and 35 minutes. Kudryavtsev will take on Marco Chiudinelli in the quarterfinal.
