SALZBURG, July 8, 2021

The quarterfinals of the Salzburg Open are set. Two strong qualifiers will appear in the stage of the final eight of the €132,280 clay-court event being held at the TC GM Sports Anif.

Czech youngster Jiri Lehecka continued his good run of form in Austria this week with a 6-2, 6-4 second-round win over Frenchman Alexandre Muller on Thursday. The 19-year-old saved four of the five break points he faced and capitalized on four of his own six break-point chances to prevail after one hour and 16 minutes.

Lehecka will next take on fellow qualifier Nicolas Jarry. The former World No. 38 from Chile defeated German wild card entry Peter Heller 6-2, 6-4. Jarry dominated the match with his strong serve, as he hit nine aces to secure victory one hour and 16 minutes.

The current World No. 309 achieved his highest ATP singles ranking in July 2019 after clinching his first ATP Tour title in Bastad, Sweden. During the Davis Cup Finals later in that year, Jarry tested positive for Ligandrol and Stanozolol. The South American was suspended from competition for 11 months. The ban expired on 15 November, with Jarry subsequently entering the 2020 Lima Challenger via wild cards in singles and doubles. Earlier this season, the 25-year-old from Santiago captured his fourth ATP Challenger career title by lifting the trophy of the Salinas Open in Ecuador.

In the bottom half of the draw, No. 2 seed Pablo Cuevas eased past Danilo Petrovic of Serbia 6-1, 6-4 in one hour and 11 minutes. The 35-year-old from Uruguay will next play Juan-Ignacio Londero.

The Argentine won a topsy-turvy encounter against Russian lucky loser Alexey Vatutin by the score of 6-0, 2-6, 6-0. The match lasted one hour and 37 minutes.
