Gojowczyk Keeps Up Good Form In Bergamo

The first round of the €42,500 Internazionali di Tennis Trofeo Perrel-Faip concluded and the second round started on Wednesday at the Pala Norda in Bergamo.

Aldin Setkic won his third encounter with Dustin Brown in the pair’s third meeting. The 28-year-old Bosnina defeated the tournament’s number seven 2-6, 6-2, 7-6. Setkic withstood 16 aces and capitalized on three of his eight break point opportunities to prevail in one hour and 25 minutes. Setkic will face Tristan Lamasine next.

Nils Langer, who claimed the ITF Future title in Nussloch two weeks ago, battled through the qualifying and advanced to the second round, winning 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 against Salvatore Caruso. Langer sent down 12 aces and converted all of his five break points to seal victory in one hour and 56 minutes. The 26-year-old will face fellow-German Michael Berrer next, who beat Radek Stepanek on Monday.

In the first part of the second round encounters Peter Gojowczyck, who entered the main draw as alternate and knocked off top-seed Yuki Bhambri in the opening round, continued his winning streak through a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Alexander Kudryavtsev. The world number 201 from Germany withstood 16 aces, hitting 10 of his own to prevail in one hour and 31 minutes. Gojowczyk’s next opponent will be Pierre-Hugues Herbert, who defeated sixth seed Go Soeda 6-4, 6-3 in only 59 minutes.

Egor Gerasimov cruised past Igor Sijsling, winning 6-1, 6-2 in only 45 minutes to reach the quarterfinals. Marco Chiudinelli ousted Quentin Halys 7-6, 7-5 in one hour and 48 minutes.
