Diez Wins ITF Future Title in Mallorca

The ITF Pro Circuit has arrived on the Spanish island of Mallorca for two $10,000 Future events, held at the Tennis Center Paguera.

The first tournament ended on Sunday with fifth seed Steven Diez winning the final 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 over Pawel Cias from Poland. In a close encounter, the 24-year-old Canadian won 101 of a total 200 points and converted five of his 13 break points to prevail in two hours and 29 minutes.

Diez, who is Spain’s current National Champion, as he raised primarily in and competing for Spain early in his career, captured his 16th ITF Future title earning $1,440 as well as 18 ATP ranking points.

Second seeds Tomislav Brkic and Kamil Majchrzak clinched the doubles title, winning 6-3, 6-4 against Carlos Taberner and Kento Yamada in 66 minutes.
