#NextGenATP star Carlos Alcaraz is the champion of the ATP Challenger 125 Oeiras Open hosted by the Complexo Desportivo Nacional do Jamor in Oeiras, Portugal. The 18-year-old Spaniard won the battle of the generations against 31-year-old Facundo Bagnis of Argentina in Saturday’s singles final 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the biggest title in his career so far.

Alcaraz, who beat Yasutaka Uchiyama of Japan, US-American teenager Brandon Nakashima, local favourite Gastao Elias and Japanese Taro Daniel en-route to the title match, capitalized on three of his six break-point chances to seal victory in one hour and 38 minutes.

“I’m super, super happy to have managed to win this title. I played at a great level all week and that was what I needed, because these tournaments have very good players and to win I needed a very high level of play and concentration. I managed to do it and it was a very good preparation to arrive at Roland-Garros with great confidence,” Alcaraz said.

Alcaraz, who clinched three ATP Challenger titles in Trieste, Italy as well as on home soil in Barcelona and Alicante, took away €18,290 in prize money as well as 125 ATP Ranking points from the western part of the Lisbon metropolitan area. The teenager will crack the Top 100 for the first time when the new Rankings will be released on Monday.

Alcaraz achieved the feat 22 years after his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. The former World No. 1 entered the Top 100 after winning an ATP Challenger in Maia, Portugal.

“It’s an incredible coincidence,” the youngster from Murcia said and added:“It’s very special to enter the top 100 for the first time but there’s no time to celebrate. I fly to Paris today and need to focus on Roland-Garros qualifying.”

Later in the day, Hunter Reese from the United States and Sem Verbeek of the Netherlands took the doubles title. The unseeded duo fought past the all-French tandem of Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul 4-6, 6-4, 10-7. The final lasted one hour and 38 minutes.
