Clezar Will Face Bagnis For The Challenger Title At Vivo Tennis Cup

Guilherme Clezar and Facundo Bagnis will go head to head in Sunday’s final

After a washout Friday, all quarter- and semi-finals matches had to be played on Saturday at the $50,000 ATP Challenger Vivo Tennis Club in Rio de Janeiro.

Locar Guilherme Clezar emerged victorious from both of his encounters, winning 6-2, 7-5 over eighth seed Andrej Martin, followed by a win over Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo. Clezar defeated the Spanish veteran 6-3, 6-3, hitting eight aces in 67 minutes of play.

The Brazilian will face fourth seed Facundo Bagnis for the title. The world number 109 from Argentina had to work hard playing six sets. He had overcome Gastao Elias, winning 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 before he knocked out Brazilian wild card Thiago Monteiro through a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory. Bagnis withstood 10 aces and converted three of his seven break points to prevail after one hour and 52 minutes.

Clezar and Bagnis will meet for the eighth time on the tour with the Argentine leading 5-2 in head to head records. The last match took place in the second round of the ATP Challenger in Mendoza this year. Bagnis won 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
