LONG BEACH, January 18, 2016

Unseeded Yannick Hanfmann claimed his third Pro Circuit title, winning the final of the $25,000 ITF Futures event in Long Beach, held at the El Dorado Park Tennis Center on Sunday.

The 24-year-old German, a former USC all-American, cruised past only 18-year-old US-American Michael Mmoh 6-4, 6-0. Hanfmann won 67% of his second service points and converted six of his eight break points to finish the encounter in only 56 minutes.

“I was a little caught off at the start because I thought he would come out a little bit more aggressive and I got broken the first game,” said Hanfmann, who currently practices at the Tennis Base in Oberhaching. “It was a little bit weird. But once I settled in I thought I was able to play a little bit better than he did. I mean to win 4 and 0, you really don’t see that that often in the final.”

Hanfmann wins $3,600 in prize money and receives 27 ATP ranking points. He is the current world number 660.

“We are happy that Yannick starts the season with a victory at a tournament with a strong field,” added his coach Laras Uebel. “He practiced hard and this title will give him confidence to constantly climb up the rankings. The main goal is to start at a Grand Slam tournament in 2017.”
