Goffin Advances At Antalya Open

The bottom half of the draw at the Antalya Open was in second-round action on Saturday, led by No. 2 seed David Goffin. After saving five match points in his opening match against Pierre-Hugues Herbert, the World No. 16 from Belgium sent down four aces and won 91 per cent of his first-service points en route to a comfortable 6-0, 6-2 victory over Spaniard Nicola Kuhn. The encounter lasted only 56 minutes.

Goffin will face Stefano Travaglia of Italy in the quarterfinals. The 29-year-old edged out Finnish young gun Emil Ruusuvuori 7-6(5), 6-3 in one hour and 46 minutes.

In other action, No. 4 seed Alex de Minaur defeated Bulgarian qualifier Adrian Andreev 6-3, 6-1. The 21-year-old Australian broke his opponent’s serve on six occasions to earn his second straight-sets win of the tournament after 70 minutes.

Up next for de Minaur will be sixth seed Nikoloz Basilashvili for a place in the semi-finals. The 28-year-old Georgian won 49 per cent of his return points to beat Turkish wild card Altug Celikbilek 7-6(1), 6-4 in one hour and 31 minutes.
