The final two tournaments on the ATP Challenger Tour of the season kicked off on Saturday. In Europe, the city of Maia, located about 10 km north of central Porto in Portugal, welcomes players for the second edition of the €44,820 Maia Open.
The field of the indoor clay-court event held at the Complexo Municipal de Ténis da Maia is led by World No. 85 Pedro Martinez from Spain. The 23-year-old will open his title bid against Andrea Arnaboldi from Italy. Home favourite Pedro Sousa is the tournament’s second seed. The 32-year-old from Lisbon, who is seeking his first trophy of the season, will start against a qualifier.
In Sunday’s final round of qualifying eight players are vying for four spots in the main draw. Wild card entry Luis Faria from Portugal will take on Michael Vrbensky from the Czech Republic, Croatian teenager Duje Ajdukovic will play Nikolas Sanchez Izquierdo from Spain, Italy’s Riccardo Bonadio will face Frenchman Maxime Hamou and Nino Serdarusic of Croatia will oppose Altug Celikbilek from Turkey.

On the other side of the Atlantic, a three-week clay-court swing in South America concludes with the Campeonato Internacional de Tenis in Campinas, Brazil. Roberto Carballes Baena is the top seed of the $52,080 ATP Challenger 80 event hosted by the Sociedade Hípica de Campinas. The World No. 102 will play fellow Spaniard Roberto Ortega Olmedo in the first round. #NextGenATP Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild is second seed and will open his home campaign against Alejandro Tabilo of Chile.
