Taro Daniel is the champion of the 2020 Tennis Challenger Hamburg presented by Tannenhof held at the venue of the Hamburg Tennis Association. The No. 2 seed from Japan defeated Sebastian Ofner of Austria 6-1, 6-2 in Sunday’s final.

Daniel, who dropped only two sets en route to the title match, saved both break points he faced and capitalized on four of his own nine break-point opportunities to secure victory in one hour and nine minutes.

“I had a great week in Hamburg and I was able to develop my game from match to match. Today I made it very difficult for my opponent and never let him get into the match. I am very happy and hope that I can take the momentum into the next tournament,” said Daniel.

By lifting his seventh ATP Challenger Tour career trophy, his second of the season following his triumph in Burnie, Australia, the World No. 122 pocketed €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.

Ofner, who struggled with shoulder problems during the final, earned €3,650 in prize money and 48 ATP Ranking points. The 24-year-old from Bruck an der Mur will stay in Germany for another week competing in the Challenger Eckental.
