Spanish teen sensation Carlos Alcaraz has clinched his second ATP Challenger title by winning the third edition of the €44,280 Sanchez-Casal Leotron Catalonia, hosted by the Sanchez-Casal Academy in Barcelona, Spain. After a slow start, the 17-year-old battled past No. 4 seed Damir Dzumhur from Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 in Sunday’s singles final.

Alcaraz, who still had to finish his semi-final encounter against Argentine qualifier Andrea Colarini, winning 6-3, 7-5 earlier in the day, won 10 points more than his opponent in the championship match to secure victory in one hour and 48 minutes.

“I’m very happy to win in Barcelona,” said Alcaraz, quoted by the ATP Challenger website. “The truth is, I didn’t know how it would go, because last week I lost in the second round in Biella. But, little by little I gained confidence and found my form. Many thanks to my team for supporting me and pushing me throughout the week. They helped me find the level that I needed to win.”

The World No. 189 pocketed €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points. Alcaraz lifted his maiden trophy on the Challenger Tour in Trieste, Italy last month.

On Saturday, Szymon Walkow from Poland and Tristan-Samuel Weissborn of Austria took the doubles title. The No. 4 seeds fought past Harri Heliovaara of Finland and US-American Alex Lawson. The final lasted one hour and six minutes.
