Munar To Face Diez In Sunday’s Final Of Spanish National Championships

With Jaume Munar and Steven Diez two unseeded players will compete in Sunday’s men’s final of the National Spanish Tennis Championships (Campeonato de Espana Mapfre Absoluto), held on hard courts in Sant Joan Despí.

The only 18-year-old from Mallorca ousted eighth seed David Perez Sanz, winning 6-2, 7-5. Diez cruised past seventh favourite Gerard Granollers, winning 6-1, 6-1. The world number 442 and the world number 384 have never met on the tour before.

Later the afternoon, Jaume Munar claimed the doubles title alongside Marc López, winning Saturday’s final 6-3, 7-5 against Sergio Martos and Pol Toledo.

With Lourdes Dominguez and Tita Torró two ex-champions will clash in the women’s final. Dominguez won the title in 2006, Torró six years later.
