Stan Wawrinka

STARNBERG, August 7, 2020

According to Swiss daily newspaper Le Nouvelliste, Stan Wawrinka will play back-to-back ATP Challenger events in Prague from August 17 to 30. The 35-year-old from Switzerland, who didn’t compete in an exhibition event during the suspension of the international tennis circuit, will return to the courts for the first time since the ATP 500 tournament in Acapulco, Mexico in February.

On Friday morning, Wawrinka practiced alongside Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert at the Tennis Club Nyon. ““It was one of the first times I played for points. For now, it’s coming back nicely. The first step is to get back into the rhythm,” Wawrinka told the newspaper.

The ATP Challenger clay-court events in the capital city of the Czech Republic will help the World No. 17 getting ready for Roland Garros, which is scheduled to be held in Paris from September 21 to October 11. Wawrinka won the French Open back in 2015.

He will compete in his first ATP Challenger event since lifting the trophy on home soil in Lugano 10 years ago. Wawrinka has clinched four titles on the ATP Challenger Tour but will face strong competition. Six top 100 players have entered the Prague Open in mid-August.
