MUNICH, December 14, 2015

Roberto Bautista-Agut confirmed his participation for next year’s BMW Open by FWU AG taking place from 23 April to 1 May. The tournament’s organizers as well as the world number 25 from Spain, who appeared alongside Fabio Fognini, spoke to the media at the venue of the MTTC Iphitos in Munich on Monday.

“We are very happy to announce our first world class player for the 101st edition of the International Bavarian Tennis Championships,” told tournament director Patrik Kühnen. “We thank our partner FWU AG for their engagement, so that we are able to present our first top player today,” added organizer Michael Mronz.

Bautista-Agut and Fognini are both brand ambassadors for the insurance company Atlanticlux and arrived together for a business day in sunny Munich. “I played a great tournament here this year, as I like the conditions here very much with clay courts in combination with a bit of altitude,” the Spaniard from Castellón, who reached the semi-finals in Munich 2015, told Tennis TourTalk.

“At the moment I am working hard. Preparations for next season are already underway and I have three more weeks ahead of me to start 2016 in Chennai. I will go to Valencia, having some practice sessions with other ATP players like David Ferrer and Daniel Gimeno-Traver. Conditions are perfect there. Weather is fine and we are able to play outdoors,” the 27-year-old explained, who is still unhappy about the fact that the tournament in Valencia will be shifted to Belgium.

“That’s really a pity that there will be no tournament next year after so many years. It has always been something special for us Spaniards to play in front of our home crowd but we have to deal with it,” Bautista-Agut, who played a stellar role for the Raipur Rangers team at the Champions Tennis League in India at the end of November. “It was a nice experience. The atmosphere was great. It was the first time for me that I played a different format, also with doubles and mixed doubles. That was fun. It was also good to play there after the vacation in order to get ready for the next tasks. Maybe I will get the chance to play there next year,” he told and hopes to be part of the Spanish team for the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016.

“I think, I will have a good chance to play there next year. The last six months on the tour were very good for me with good results. I still have another half a year in order to qualify for Rio. Spain gets four spots and I hope that I will gain one of it,” Bautista-Agut is optimistic.
