Basic sets quarterfinals clash with Berankis in Ortisei

Top-seed Ricardas Berankis advanced to the quarterfinals on Wednesday at the € 65,000 Sparkassen ATP Challenger in Ortisei. The world number 82 from Lithuania downed Ramkumar Ramanathan, winning 7-5, 6-2. After an even opening set and 2-2 in the second, Berankis made four games in a row to seal victory in one hour and 42 minutes.

Berankis will take on Mirza Basic next. The seventh seed from Bosnia-Herzegovina cruise past Salvatore Caruso, winning 6-1, 6-2 in only 56 minutes. Basic won 80% of his first service points, lost his service only once and capitalized on five of his nine break point chances.

With Aldin Setkic another Bosnian advanced to the quarterfinals. The 27-year-old from Sarajevo defeated Alessandro Giannessi, winning 6-3, 6-1. Setkic saved all of the three break points he faced, converting two of his own to seal victory in only 57 minutes.

Setkic will take on Laslo Djere next. The 20-year-old Serbian knocked out fifth seed Michael Berrer, winning 7-5, 2-6, 6-0. It was even affair until 5-5 in the first set. In the following, Berrer lost his sever to love and therwith the frame. Berrer came back in the second but eventually was without any chance in the final set. The match lasted one hour and 28 mintues.

In the remaining first round matches eighth seed Andrea Arnaboldi emerged victorious from the all-Italian-affair, winning 6-1, 6-2 over Lorenzo Giustino. The match lasted 63 minutes. Marton Fucsovics beat Niels Desein with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 victory, saving five match points in the decider to close the encounter after two hours and four minutes.
