Johnson Leads Las Vegas Tennis Open Quarterfinals Line-Up

LAS VEGAS, October 18, 2019

Steve Johnson advanced to the quarterfinals of the Las Vegas Tennis Open. The top seed of the $54,160 ATP Challenger hard-court event defeated fellow US-American Michael Redlicki 6-4, 6-4 on Thursday afternoon.

Johnson saved all four break points he faced and capitalized on two of his own three chances to secure victory in one hour and 23 minutes. Up next for the World No. 86 will be Ernesto Escobedo, who fought past No. 6 seed Emilio Gomez from Ecuador 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.

No. 2 seed Taro Daniel also booked his spot in the stage of the final eight. The 26-year-old from Japan beat Gonzalo Escobar of Ecuador 6-3, 6-3. Daniel won 56 per cent of the total points played to prevail after one hour and 19 minutes. The New York native will next take on Canada’s Vasek Pospisil.

No. 3 seed Marcos Giron ended the run of Greek qualifier Michail Pervolarakis, winning 6-0, 7-6(4). The World No. 127 from California will next play 10th seed Christopher O’Connell from Australia, who clinched his first two ATP Challenger titles this season in Cordenons, Italy and Fairfield, United States.
