The top two-ranked players of the singles draw at the Murray Trophy fell in the third round on Thursday. Alexandre Muller of France knocked out the tournament’s No. 1, Malek Jaziri of Tunisia, 6-3, 6-1.
The World No. 278 from Poissy didn’t face a break point and capitalized on four of his own five chances to advance in exactly 60 minutes. Muller will next take on Spanish young gun Nicola Kuhn, who defeated Mirza Basic from Bosnia and Herzegovina 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 10 minutes.
Later in the day, Daniel Masur upset Frenchman Quentin Halys, seeded third in Glasgow, winning 7-6(5), 7-6(4). The No. 14 seed from Germany outpointed his opponent 89-86 after one hour and 47 minutes. Masur will play Ramkumar Ramanathan of India in the quarterfinals. The fifth favourite eased past Botic van de Zandschulp from the Netherlands by the score of 6-4, 6-1.

Emil Ruusuvuori remains the highest seed left in the €46,600 hard-court event. The No. 4 seed from Finland, who won two ATP Challenger titles this season, beat Cem Ilkel from Turkey 6-3, 6-2 in 65 minutes to meet No. 9 seeded German Tobias Kamke in the stage of the final eight.
