Five-time champion Roger Federer reached his 13th US Open quarterfinal and 56th Grand Slam quarterfinal with a 6-2, 6-2, 6-0 win over No. 15 seed David Goffin of Belgium on Sunday.

After dropping the first sets of his first two matches of this campaign, Roger Federer used the match against Dan Evans to raise his level. Out on Arthur Ashe Stadium, Goffin had to feel the impact of that. The World No. 3 from Switzerland struck 10 aces and won 83 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in one hour and 19 minutes.

“I’ve got to say that David didn’t have his best day. I know he was struggling,” said Federer, as quoted on the US Open webiste. “When I was up, all of a sudden, a break, I felt like he was starting not to play the same way anymore or like I’d known him from previous times.”

In contrast, Federer seemed pleased with his own performance. “I’m very happy with my level of play,” the Swiss maestro said. The No. 3 seed will next meet Grigor Dimitrov from Bulgaria, who defeated Australian young gun Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and five minutes.
