Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland and Matteo Viola from Italy will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the Rafa Nadal Open by Sotheby’s International Realty. Ruusuvuori defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain, fifth seed and highest-ranked player left in the singles draw, 7-5, 6-2 on Saturday evening.

The No. 15th seed broke his opponent’s serve five times to advance in one hour and 23 minutes.

Earlier in the day, Viola battled past Daniel Masur from Germany 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-2. The 32-year-old Italian won 51 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in two hours and 21 minutes.

Ruusuvuori is seeking his second ATP Challenger trophy following his triumph in Fergana, Uzbekistan in June. He finished runner-up to Yannick Hanfmann at the Schwaben Open in Augsburg last month. Viola could clinch his fourth Challenger title, his first since Biella 2014. The two players will meet for the first time.
