Top seed Pedro Sousa will lead the quarterfinals line-up at the Tennis Open Stadtwerke Meerbusch. The World No. 148 from Portugal eased past Javier Barranco Cosano of Spain, winning 6-4, 6-1 on Thursday.

Sousa capitalized on six of his nine break point chances to advance in one hour and 11 minutes. The 31-year-old from Lisbon will face Jelle Sels from the Netherlands in the stage of the final eight.

Pedja Krstin was in cruise mode against Argentine Facundo Mena. The No. 3 seed from Serbia didn’t face a break point, converting five of his own seven chances to secure a 6-2, 6-0 victory in only 46 minutes. Krstin will next play sixth seeded Spaniard Roberto Ortega-Olmedo, who fought past the tournament’s No. 11 Raul Brancaccio of Italy 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-4 after two hours and 31 minutes.

Louis Wessels is the last German player left in the singles draw of the €46,600 ATP Challenger clay-court event. The 20-year-old wild card entry held off Scott Griekspoor from the Netherlands, who knocked out No. 2 seed Jay Clarke in the second round, winning 7-5, 7-5.

Wessels sent down seven aces and won 82 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after one hour and 44 minutes. The World No. 395 will appear in his first quarterfinal at Challenger level meeting either Jan Choinski of Great Britain or Russian Aslav Karatsev. Their match was suspended due to darkness at 5-5 in the third set.
