Players arrive in Tiburon for 9th ATP Challenger event

TIBURON, September 27, 2015

The $100,000 Wells Fargo Tiburon Challenger welcomed players for the first day of the qualifying at the nine-day Men’s Pro Circuit event on Saturday.

Two of the day’s seven matches included tiebreakers in hard-fought matches, as players vied to advance to the next round. In addition, two Wild Cards, US-Americans Conor Berg and Paul Barreto, held the court for two hours and nine minutes as they faced off against each other in a close contest that had Berg taking the first set 6-4 and Barretto matching him 6-4  in the second. Berg prevailed in the third set, 6-3.

It is the ninth edition of the tournament taking place at the Tiburon Peninsula Club. “One of the great benefits of my job is being tournament director,” says Brendan Curry on facebook, expecting thousands of spectators. “Some of the best players in tennis show up in Tiburon.”
