Huesler Hoists Maiden Challenger Trophy At San Luis Open

SAN LUIS POTOSI, April 23, 2019

Marc-Andrea Huesler of Switzerland clinched his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour, winning the 34th edition of the $54,160 San Luis Open, held on clay at the Club Deportivo Portosino. The 22-year-old Zürich native upset No. 2 seed Adrian Mendendez-Maceiras of Spain in Sunday’s singles final 7-5, 7-6(3).

Huesler struck eight aces, winning 81 per cent of his first service points to secure victory in one hour and 48 minutes.

Huesler beat Sem Verbeek from the Netherlands, Danilo Petrovic of Serbia, Gonzalo Escobar of Ecuador, Austrai’s Lucas Miedler and Brazilian Pedro Sakamoto en route to the title match. He earned $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP-Ranking points.

Earlier in the day, Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador and Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela from Mexico took the doubles title. The top seeds rallied past Ariel Behar of Uruguay and Roberto Quiroz from Ecuador 1-6, 6-4, 12-10. The encounter lasted one hour and 17 minutes.
