Baghdatis Returns To Winners’ Circle At Pingshan Open

SHENZHEN, March 17, 2019

Marcos Baghdatis is the champion of the 2019 Pingshan Open held at the Shenzhen Interntaional Tennis Center. The No. 2 seed from Cyprus battled past Stefano Napolitano of Italy in Sunday’s singles final, winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

Baghdatis sent down nine aces and broke his opponent’s serve five times to prevail after two hours and 31 minutes.

By lifting his first trophy in five years, the 33-year-old former World No. 8 took away $10,800 in prize money as well as 90 ATP Ranking points. Baghdatis clinched his 11th ATP Challenger title overall.

Earlier in the day, Cheng-Peng Hsieh of Chinese Taipei and Christopher Rungkat of Indonesia claimed the doubles title. The top seeds fought past Zhe Li of China and Goncalo Oliveira from Portugal 6-4, 3-6, 10-6. The encounter lasted one hour and 11 minutes.
