Bublik Takes Pau Challenger Title

Alexander Bublik is the champion of the inaugural €69,280 Teréga Open Pau-Pyrénées. The city of Pau is the cultural and sporting capital of the  Nouvelle-Aquitaine region located at the northern edge of the Pyrenees mountains. The Commune hosted the ATP Challenger Tour 90 hard-court event in the last seven days with Top 50 star Jeremy Chardy serving as its tournament director. Bublik rallied past Norbert Gombos from Slovakia 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final.

The No. 4 seed from Kazakhstan, who recently clinched the Hungarian Challenger title in Budapest, fired 13 aces, winning 77 per cent of his first service points to prevail after one hour and 44 minutes.

By lifting his second ATP Challenger trophy of the season, his fifth overall, Bublik collects €9,200 in prize money as well as 90 ATP-Ranking points.

Clayton/Shamasdan take doubles title

Earlier in the day, Scott Clayton of Great Britain and Canadian Adil Shamasdin took their first team title. The unseeded duo fought past No. 4 seeds Sander Arends from the Netherlands and Tristan-Samuel Weissborn of Austria 7-6(4), 5-7, 10-8. The encounter lasted one hour and 35 minutes.
