Tak Khunn Wang of France clinched his first title of the season. The 27-year-old from Paris won the 5th Qatar ITF Futures 2018 held at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex. Wang defeated last week’s champion and No. 2 seed Goncalo Oliveira of Portugal 6-3, 6-3 in Saturday’s singles final of the $15,000 hard-court event.

The tournament’s No. 6, who only lost one set en route to the title match, sent down six aces and broke his opponent’ serve three times to prevail after one hour and 10 minutes.

“I’m so happy that I claimed the title of Qatar F5 Futures. My serve was so good in the final match against Goncalo so I was able to defeat him,” Wang said.

“This is my second title in Doha after 2016 so in enjoyed playing here in Doha which is a special place for me,” he added.

By lifting his first trophy of the season, the Frenchman collected $2,160 in prize money as well as 18 ATP-Ranking points. On his ambitions in the new sports season, Wang said that he would try to improve his level and stay fit as injuries kept him away for long periods of the last season.

On Friday, Goncalo Oliveira and Bernardo Saraiva clinched the doubles title. The top seeds from Portugal rallied past wild card entries Adelchi Virgili of Italy and Mubarak Shannan Zayid of Qatar 4-6, 6-3, 13-11. The encounter lasted one hour and 19 minutes.
