Elias Ymer successfully defended his title at the €85,000 Internationaux De Tennis De Vendée in Mouilleron-Le-Captif. The No. 7 seed from Sweden edged past the tournament’s No. 6 Yannick Maden from Germany 6-3, 7-6(5) in a rematch of last year’s final on Sunday.

Ymer capitalized on three of his nine break point opportunities to prevail after one hour and 48 minutes. By lifting his first trophy of the season, the 22-year-old takes away from France €12,250 in prize money as well as 100 ATP-Ranking points.

“It feels very good. It’s the first time in my career that I’ve defended a title,” said Ymer. “It means a lot to me because I’ve never done it before. I like the surface here and he beat me the last time in Rennes, so I knew that if you don’t play your best tennis he is going to beat you. I was very strong today, especially in the tie-break when I won five points in a row. I was very aggressive and it paid off.”

Earlier in the day, Sander Gillé and Joran Vliegen of Belgium captured their seventh ATP Challenger team title of the season. The No. 3 seeds fought past Romain Arneodo of Monaco and Frenchman Quentin Halys 6-3, 4-6, 10-2 in the doubles final. The encounter lasted one hour and 10 minutes.
