Top Seed Thompson Falls In Stockton Challenger Semi-Finals

Darian King and Noah Rubin were crowned the doubles champions at the 2018 Stockton Pro Open. The singles championship field was also set with Lloyd Harris of South Africa squaring off with Australian Marc Polmans, which takes place on Sunday morning.

Singles started off Saturday’s action with an upset by the tournament’s No. 4 Lloyd Harris defeating the top-seed Jordan Thompson of Australia in two straight. In the first set, Lloyd Harris kept it close forcing a tiebreaker to win 7-6(6), amongst eight aces and one double fault.

In the second set, Harris and Thompson traded off games until 2-2 when Harris took the next four games to defeat Thompson, 6-2. Harris finished with 15 aces against two double faults, amongst a 62 per cent first serve.

No. 8 seed Marc Polmans eased his way into the final with a two-straight sets victory over Frenchman Maxime Janvier. Polmans took set one 6-1, winning five games in a row. In the second set, Polmans and Janvier traded off games until 4-4. Polmans went on to win the next two games in a row to take the set 6-4 behind a 75 percent first serve.

In the doubles finals, Darian King and Noah Rubin upset the top-seeded duo Sanchai Ratiwatana and Christopher Rungkat to claim the doubles title crown. King and Rubin scored three aces in set one and converted on 13 of 16 first serve points won in the first set for a 6-3 victory.

In the second set, Ratiwatana and Rungkat kept it close, as both teams battled and traded off games, before King and Rubin won the last two games for a 6-4 victory in set two. The final lasted 50 minutes.
