Top seed Ivan Gakhov of Russia and the tournament’s No. 5 Paul Wörner will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the Karlsruhe Open, a $15,000 ITF Pro Circuit clay-court event.
Gakhov edged past third favourite Thomas Statzberger of Austria 7-5, 6-3. The 21-year-old from Moscow capitalized on four of his eight break point opportunities to secure victory in one hour and 37 minutes.
Later on Saturday, Wörner had to go the distance against No. 7 seeded Frenchman Dan Added. The 21-year-old German outpointed his opponent 97-89 to seal a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win after two hours and 20 minutes.
Gakhov is seeking his eighth ITF Pro Circuit title, his first of the season. Wörner could lift his first Futures singles title. The pair will meet for the first time.
Voljacques/Wehnelt clinch doubles crown
Doubles finalists
Hugo Voljacques of France and Kai Wehnelt from Germany captured the doubles title.
The second seeded duo beat the all-Argentine combination of Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Alejo Vilaro 7-5, 7-5. The final lasted one hour and 29 minutes.
