Arnaboldi defeats Martin to reach quarterfinals in Todi

The second round matches took place on Thursday at the ATP Challenger in Todi.

Top-seed Aljaz Bedene fought past Andreas Beck, winning 6-3, 5-7, 6-2. The British number two fired nine aces to close the match after two hours and 16 minutes facing Germain Gigounon next. The 26-year-old Belgian defeated Frederico Gerre Silva 7-6, 6-3 in one hour and 36 minutes.

Marco Cecchinato beat Christian Lindell without facing a break point in 66 minutes, winning 6-3, 6-2. The 22-year-old Italian will play French qualifier Stephane Robert in the quarterfinal, who took out Gianluca Mager in straight sets 7-6, 6-2. The encounter lasted 80 minutes.

Italian wild card Andrea Arnaboldi knocked out last week’s ATP Challenger champion from Padova Andrej Martin, winning 7-6, 3-6, 6-3. The world number 184 won 64% of his first service points to seal victory in two hours and 44 minutes. Arnaboldi will meet Matteo Donati, who beat Lucas Pouille 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.

Sixth seed Alejandro Gonzalez battled to defeat Mathias Bourgue 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. The 21-year-old Frenchman capitalized on four of his seven break points to prevail after two hours and 22 minutes facing Nicolas Kicker in the quarterfinals, who took out Albert Montaῆes, winning 7-5, 6-3 in one hour and 29 minutes.
