BALATONALMÁDI, May 25, 2018

Toby Martin of Great Britain and Alen Rogic Hadzalic from Croatia clinched the doubles title of the $15,000 Balatonalmádi Open. The duo defeated the all-US-American combination of Victor Gurevich and Maksin Tikhomirov 6-3, 6-2 in Friday’s final between two unseeded teams.

Due to bad weather the match started in the late afternoon in front of about 30 spectators at the Tenisz Klub Balatonalmádi. Martin and Rogic Hadzalic were in control of the encounter, capitalized on five of their six break point chances to secure victory in one hour and eight minutes.

“Our teamwork was key today,” Rogic Hadzalic told Tennis TourTalk after the win. The 21-year-old Croat clinched his first title on the ITF Pro Circuit.

“It was very special, in particular with this partner. We just had a blast this week and a very special time,” the World No. 1,644 in the doubles ranking was pleased.

Martin took his fifth Futures crown in doubles, his first since 2015. “We played really well together. It was pretty tough to beat us this week, as we played some decent volleys and I am very happy the way we served. I am proud that we closed it out in the end,” Martin commented, who will next have a week of practice before going to Italy, where he will compete in Futures and two ATP Challenger events.

Rogic Hadzalic will next play in the qualifying of the Kiseljak Open in Bosnia and Herzegovina. “I have to leave tomorrow at 6 a.m. with the bus. Fortunately it is not too far from here but there is no rest for me. I just to keep on playing.”

The singles semi-finals were cancelled and postponed to Saturday morning 9:30 am, followed by the singles final.
