Two seeds fell in opening round at ATP Challenger in Todi

Two of the top three seeds fell in the opening round on Tuesday at the € 42,500 ATP Challenger in Todi.

The second favourite of the Internazionali di Tennis dell’Umbria Dusan Lajovic, who entered the draw through a wild card, lost against Nicolas Kicker 4-6, 6-1, 4-6. The 22-year-old Argentine saved 70% of his break points against the world number 86 from Serbia to prevail after one hour and 45 minutes.

Third seed Blaz Rola lost his first tour meeting with Christian Lindell 6-3, 6-7, 4-6. The 23-year-old Swede celebrated his first match win since reaching the quarterfinals at the ATP Challenger in Blois in June by capitalizing on three of his six break point chances to seal victory in two hours and 18 minutes.

Lindell will face Marco Cecchinato next. The world number 117 won the all-Italian-affair against Thomas Fabbiano 6-1, 6-4. Cecchinato fired nine aces and won 62% of his first service points to advance after 72 minutes.

Sixth seed Alejandro Gonzalez beat Jurgen Zopp without facing a break point, winning 6-2, 6-3 to play Mathias Bourgue in the second round. The 21-year-old Frenchman defeated Niels Desein in one hour and 26 minutes, winning 7-5, 6-1.
